Gear

Gear central to Nate’s on set process:

Steadicam Axis

Great for moving fast, agility, and long takes, the Steadicam Axis is a lightweight body mounted stabilizer that can accommodate a 20 lb. camera package, plenty of payload to handle flagship digital cinema cameras in a standard or stripped down build, depending on lens choice.

It is equipped with a Steadicam Volt system, an electronically assisted gimbal mount for the sled that keeps the horizon level, dampens small unwanted movements and effectively locks the camera into a tripod style shot when needed.

Hybrid Steadicam/Ronin 2

The hybrid package is a jib mounted on a human. This package acts as a hybrid between a standard steadicam, an AR Revolution style stabilizer package and an Arri Trinity accommodating camera packages up to 30 lbs. When used as a standard steadicam, the Ronin 2 (the gold standard for premium gimbals) holds perfect horizon and provides a subtle smoothing on the tilt axis. As an AR Revolution style setup, the sled can rotate horizontally from high mode to low mode in shot while keeping both the tilt and pan axis under precise, hands-on-post, operator control. In the Arri Trinity style setup, the sled acts as a standard cine jib with linear movement from high mode to low mode. This setup is great for tight hallways or narrow obstacles. This setup provides pan under direct hands on control, while tilting the camera out of level is achieved by way of a joystick. It will otherwise hold the same tilt angle regardless of the movement.

Nodo Inertia Wheels

The foundation of Nate’s style as a cinematographer are smooth, flowing images. Handheld is great for the news, but it’s not how our brain processes the world. With a passion for immersive imaging, Nate aims to provide engaging pictures through deliberate and “invisible” movement. Geared-head wheels have been the gold standard for smooth, weighted, deliberate movement since the beginning of Hollywood. The Inertia Wheels provide remote geared-head style control of the Ronin 2 and other industry standard full size gimbals on the market. For fast moving shoots that need both steadicam and buttery smooth tripod and dolly shots, Nate’s system can swap the Ronin 2 from the hybrid steadicam to sticks or a dolly and be operating with the Inertia wheels in just a couple of minutes. This is an incredible time and logistics saver, not to mention only requiring a single camera body. A win for everyone.

Grip and Lighting

Coming from a robust career as a gaffer, Nate has a full size lighting and grip truck, as well as a two ton van package, making him a nearly one-stop shop for gear.
